The oldest naming advice in China is 女诗经，男楚辞 — girls from theBook of Songs, boys from the Songs of Chu. This generator honours that: pick “From the classics” and every suggestion arrives with the original line it was lifted from — 静姝 from “静女其姝”, 望舒 from the moon's charioteer in the Li Sao. English suggestions carry their pedigree the same way, whether it is Penelope out of the Odyssey, Olivia coined by Shakespeare, or Hannah from the Book of Samuel.

Where do the names come from?
Chinese names come from two curated sources: name-worthy lines in the classics — the Shijing (Book of Songs), the Chuci (Songs of Chu), Tang poems and the Analects, shown with the original line — and a hand-picked pool of characters used in real modern names. Every English name carries its provenance too: the Bible, Greek myth, Shakespeare, literature or history.
How does the BaZi (生辰八字) mode work?
From the birth date and hour we derive the four pillars (year, month, day, hour) in the traditional ganzhi calendar, count the Five Elements they contain, and highlight the element that is missing or weakest. Suggested names then favour characters of that element — the folk practice of 缺什么补什么. Solar-term boundaries are approximated to the calendar day, so for births on a boundary date (around the 4th–8th) consult a professional chart.
How are the Chinese and English names matched?
By sound. Each Chinese given name opens with a Mandarin sound (like the M in Míng); we suggest English names that open with the same or a very close sound (Mason, Mia), so the two names feel like one identity.
